cityblossoms

We are excited to bring back Flow for a Cause program for the 2015 season.  Flow for a Cause (#F4AC) recognizes, promotes, and supports some of our favorite nonprofit organizations that, like Yoga Hikes, promote a love of nature, the outdoors, and fitness. For the month of June we’ve brought back City Blossoms!

City Blossoms began nine years ago in Columbia Heights and is a non-profit organization dedicated to kid-driven, community engaging, creative green spaces.  To date, City Blossoms has worked with over 3000 children and youth in various gardening projects.  It has designed a unique method of developing and managing robust green spaces where children and youth are engaged as the main cultivators.  It specializes in an art-based, hands-on approach that emphasizes the strengths and unique qualities of each learning center. All City Blossoms projects are organic and designed to work with the local environment and community needs.

FEATURED INSTRUCTOR: KRISTA MASON

kristaRW-400x600Krista was practically born with a love for hiking and the outdoors.  Camping, backpacking, hiking and cross-country skiing were all a regular and favorite parts of her childhood and naturally rolled into adulthood.  She has always found solace and rest in the quiet of the woods and her love for being in nature is fierce.  You will often find Krista, her boys and her dog wandering through Rock Creek after school on any given day of the week.  Krista discovered yoga eight years ago as a mother of two young children and a frequently deployed husband and is forever grateful for that discovery. She loves the beauty and joy found in and through yoga and the peace that continues on and spills over through life.  Through moves, job changes, and eventually moving away from military life the love for yoga stuck with her.  She teaches an alignment-based Vinyasa style Hatha class and will frequently be found telling her students to “listen to their own bodies.” Krista teaches a joy-filled class and always loves when her students leave a little more peaceful and relaxed then when they came in.  The opportunity to marry her love for yoga and her love for hiking and the outdoors is one that fills Krista with excitement.  On the weekends you may find Krista going on bike rides, hikes, or cross-country skiing with her husband and kids. Krista received her RYT-200 through Sky House Yoga and is so grateful for her teachers and all she has learned through them. 100% All Natural Hot Yoga…Hikes

The BeachSummer is in full swing!

Yep!  We’ve got 100% all natural hot yoga every weekend for you.   But since some of you may find the heat daunting, we want to offer a few points to consider.

  • Its cooler in the woods and we practice in the shade.
  • Heat helps you get limber and is great for yoga breakthroughs!
  • It’s not as hot outside as it is in a hot yoga studio (usually 105 degrees!)
  • The summer breeze means no stagnant stuffy air.
  • Nothing like a good sweat to detox the body!
  • We’ll take you to “the beach.”  (Peirce Mill Hike)
  • Some hikes end at an awesome cool water pump! (Peirce Mill Hike)

Bottom line, outdoor hot yoga is high quality good stuff.  Give it a try!  For the rest of July and August we will have at least 2 Yoga Hikes a week.  Sign up online and join us!

Thank You Rosslyn, VA!

We had a fantastic experience offering Yoga Hikes in Rosslyn for the month of June and we plan to be back!  Though these were Urban Yoga Hikes we hiked up good hills and through FIVE parks including Gateway Park, Highlands Park, Hillside Park, Dark Star Park, and Freedom Park!  What really made it great though were all of the hikers who came out for their first Yoga Hike.  Your tweets, posts, and feedback were fantastic.  Thank you!!
